Muir Commons Cohousing Community
Davis, California
This pioneering development was the
first cohousing community built in the
United States.
Our role was the programming and
the design of the site plan,
common house and private houses.
Crafted on a 2.9 acre site, 26 units
were designed to preserve a sense
of privacy, while leaving quality
open space and fostering a true
sense of community. The heart of
the community is its embracing and
anchoring common house.
A planned-unit-development ( P.U.D.),
it was designed, built and sold to meet
the affordability requirements of the
City of Davis.
Project completed: 1991
