Wolf Creek Commons
Grass Valley, California
An intergenerational cohousing project that is part of the eight-acre Wolf Creek Village on the south end of Grass Valley, a well-preserved 1800's gold rush town, with nearby forests, lakes and rushing rivers. The heavily wooded site slopes down from a prominent corner to Wolf Creek.
The site layout, nearly half of which will be preserved as natural habitat, is designed to be pedestrian friendly and to minimize the impact of vehicles. It is an easy walk to local shops, supermarkets, restaurants, and downtown.
32 energy-efficient townhouses are clustered on two and a half acres, each house with its own small private yard and porch. The front doors of the homes will face an outdoor common gathering place for community activity near the spacious Common House, community gardens and landscaping, a "natural" rock pool, and a well-equipped automotive and hobby workshop.
Accessible cohousing lofts dedicated to senior living are being built on the urban corner of the site.
