McCamant & Durrett Architects has revolutionized the thinking around Senior Housing design and development. In 2006, Charles Durrett introduced America to Senior Cohousing through the publication of his book Senior Cohousing – A Community Approach to Independent Living – The Handbook (Habitat Press). In addition to Senior Cohousing, McCamant & Durrett Architects also designs affordable senior communities based, to varying degrees, on the cohousing model. Senior Cohousing represents a movement where seniors, living proximate with others, cooperate to heighten their mutual quality of life and to increase their ability to live lightly on the planet. We believe in aging with grace and full intent, where people proactively become conscious of the process of growing older and become more aware of their options, allowing for greater self-determination. At senior cohousing communities, we see people enjoying themselves more than they ever have before. Avoiding loneliness and isolation and enjoying community by living in a senior cohousing community can be one of the most rewarding decisions in a person's life. |
